Welcome to Sully Primary's PTA!

About Us

Sully PTA is comprised of voluntary Parents and Teachers of Sully Primary School. A small group who work together throughout the year to raise funds for education, experience, and equipment to benefit our children.

An annual AGM is held in September where a new committee for the academic year is nominated and seconded. We actively welcome our school community to attend our AGM as it’s a great way to find out more about the PTA, what we do to raise funds for the school, and how the money is spent.

We are actively recruiting new members and volunteers to support us throughout the year to carry out multiple tasks to prepare for, run and support our events. Any contribution you can make to support us is gratefully received no matter how small or big.

Please join us at the AGM or chat to one of us at anytime.

Mission

To make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.

Who are we?

The current make-up of the PTA is:

Chair – Amy Hoddinott

Vice Chair – Natalie Cuthill

Co-Treasurers – Rachel Chalke and Stephanie Thomas

Co-Secretaries – Silta Kabaria and Sophie Neal

How we are formed and what exactly do we do?

The PTA has undergone substantial change over recent years. From 2024 we are trialling a new format in an effort to encourage more parents and teachers to support us in ways that are feasible for them.

We have divided the PTA into three distinct groups each with varying levels of responsibility and commitment. Think of us like a functioning organism, divided into the three key parts. The brain, the Committee, driving the agenda forwarded and managing the operations. The heart, PTA Core, pumping out new ideas, supporting the brain to function day to day, utilising their knowledge and experience or muscle memory where needed and acting as an additional sounding board. The limbs, numerous functioning members of the PTA Lite supporting to deliver and pitching in where required as and when they are needed.

Annually we aim to meet a maximum of every 2 months of the academic year, that is only 6 meetings per year for Committee Members. Core members are expected to attend at least 40% which is just 2 meetings per year and Lite members are not required to attend any, although all members are welcome at any meeting. We run a series of events and activities throughout the year, these are decided at least 6 months ahead and roles and responsibilities allocated out. Any member from any three groups can lead on an event or activity if they choose to, there is no obligation, other members may prefer simply to contribute what they can. Examples of events/activities we run include; Summer Fete, Halloween Disco, Santa Visit and Gifts, Sponsored Bounce, Festive/Occasional stalls etc.

The purpose of the majority of activities are to raise funds for the school, to go towards supporting investment in equipment and educational experience to enhance our children’s learning journeys. With the school budget under constant pressure, and costs rising, this support has never been more crucial, which is why any help you can provide, even if it’s just a couple of hours, will go such a long way!

PTA Committee – The Brain

This is the centre of the PTA, driving things forward. Delivering on the mission and managing the operations. We have at least 6 Committee Members who have named roles and are registered against the Charity on the Charity Commission Register. These committee roles are:

  • Chair
  • Vice Chair
  • Co-Treasurer
  • Co-Treasurer
  • Co-Secretary
  • Co-Secretary

You will note we have doubled up on each role to spread the responsibility and workload out, supporting busy parents to be able to give their time. The Committee are ultimately responsible for decisions for the direction, activities, budget management and fund allocation for the PTA.

If you would like to join the PTA Committee please attend the AGM or contact the PTA directly on sullypta@gmail.com

PTA Core – The Heart

This is a slightly larger group, who support the Committee with innovative ideas, challenge, decision making, knowledge and experience. Many of our current core members are ex-committee members, or longstanding PTA members who offer enormous support with their knowledge and experience, although it is fantastic to add new members with new ideas and perspectives to this group. PTA Core members would be expected to attend at least 40% of meetings per year, that’s only 2 meetings in the academic year!!! Be part of the PTA Core WhatsApp group and weigh in on decisions and ideas, and help occasionally at events when you are able. We host a variety of events throughout the year at various times; school hours, evenings and weekends so there will always be an option to suite everyone.

PTA Lite – The Limbs

This should be our largest group with an array of parents who would love to support but have very little time to contribute. Our Lite members are not expected to attend meetings, although they would always be welcome. We simply request that our Lite members support where they can. We will drop a quick message in the WhatsApp chat if there is something we need help with and our Lite members can respond if they are able to help. This could be anything from making up some sweetcones, or wrapping some Christmas gifts from your own home in the lead up to an event or activity, it could be helping out at an event which are held at various times or it could be making an introduction, recommending someone, and facilitating connections. It is vital to note this is at your discretion, so if you do not have time when a request is made there is no obligation. It might be that you can only help out once during the academic year and that might be to wrap a class’s Christmas books. This support is invaluable to the wider PTA as it allows us to focus on the major tasks.

If this is for you feel free to join the PTA Lite WhatsApp group at any time:

How else can I help?

Do you work for a company that sponsors events or offers to match fund? Perhaps you can introduce us, or ask for them to match fund or sponsor one of our events. This could be from as little as covering the bouncy castle costs for the sponsored bounce, or DJ for the Halloween Disco or they could match fund an activity and add to the fundraising pot. You can introduce us via email at sullypta@gmail.com or contact your class representative on your class WhatsApp group.
