AUTUMN TERM CURRICULUM BOOKLET

Attached to this newsletter you will find a copy of this term’s curriculum booklet, which will give you information about the topics your child will be studying this term as well other useful information.  This booklet will also be available shortly on the school website.

ENCOMPASS PROJECT

Our school has been given the opportunity to take part in a project that will run jointly between schools and South Wales Police.

Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has been witness to or involved in any domestic abuse.

Operation Encompass will ensure that a member of the school staff, with responsibility for safeguarding, is equipped to allow them to liaise with the police and to use the information in confidence that has been shared to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have experienced a domestic abuse incident.

We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and we believe this will be extremely beneficial for all those involved.

Please call in to speak to Mrs Waddington if you have any questions about this initiative.

SULLYFEST THIS WEEKEND!

The pirate-themed SullyFest is taking place tomorrow!  A poster is attached with further details……

UNDERWEAR….

We would be very grateful for any donations of girls’ pants which your daughters may have outgrown, particularly smaller sizes.  Thank you in anticipation!

MUSIC LESSONS

Lessons in most instruments started this week but there is still time to sign up.  If your child is interested in learning, we have lessons available in brass, woodwind, drums, keyboard, violin, singing and harp.

If your child would like to learn the harp, we do have an instrument in school which is readily available for them to practice at lunchtime or breaktime.

Contact details for the various teachers are attached to this newsletter.

MAD SCIENCE

This morning the children enjoyed an assembly presented by ‘Mad Science’.

If your child is in Years 1 to 6, they have tonight brought home a leaflet with details of how to enrol for the after-school club which will begin shortly.  Places are limited so please sign up as soon as possible.

FAMILY LIAISON LINK

As part of her new role as Family Liaison Link, working for all Penarth cluster primary schools, Mrs Louise Barlow will be based with us every Friday.  During this time Louise will be running a parent/carer drop in service between 9 – 10 am every Friday at our school. The purpose of this is to give yourselves the time to discuss any concerns and/or well-being issues you may have about your child/children.  The meetings will be very relaxed and there is a rumour that there may be tea and biscuits too…..

ATTENDANCE UPDATE

Sadly we have missed our target of 96.3% by 0.6 %.

Once again our attendance rates dropped during the summer term due, in part, to families taking term time holidays. Please assist us in attaining the targets set and try to avoid term time holidays.

As a school we have made a conscious effort to make an early decision on INSET dates and where possible have linked them to holidays and/or weekends. We do appreciate that families need to spend quality time together and we hope that by doing this families can plan their long weekend breaks/holidays to coincide with these days. Information on INSET dates for this academic year are to be found in ‘Advance Dates’ below and also on our Website.

REMEMBER—A DAY MISSED CAN IMPACT ON YOUR CHILD’S PROGRESS IN SCHOOL

PARENT FORUM

This is an open forum for all parents to involve themselves in the school and to help us develop the learning experiences of our children. All parents are welcome to attend. Our initial meeting for this academic year will take place on Tuesday 1st October 2019 from 2.15pm and will be hosted by Ms Shelley Harries.
