Italian is the closest Romance language to Latin, and because about 60 percent of the English language is Latin-based, outside of studying Latin itself, Italian can be a significant aid in learning the structure and patterns of English.

We also believe that, whether children decide to continue with their Italian studies as they move on into secondary school, it will help them develop an understanding of many other European languages, for example, French or Spanish, which they will come across in later life

We are fortunate to have the support of the Italian Government in accessing a native Italian speaker to instruct the children in Years 5 & 6. The children access Italian language lessons each week, some of which are undertaken through a ‘triple literacy’ approach.

We also have members of staff who speak Italian or who have undertaken training to develop their own use of Italian for use within the classroom.
