CHILDREN IN NEED
We will be supporting ‘Children in Need’ next Friday, 16th November. The Sully Senedd has decided that we should all wear something spotty and bring a small donation.
They would also like to hold a cake sale in the hall after school, and donations of cakes will be gratefully received that morning.
THE MAYOR’S OFFICIAL CHRISTMAS CARD COMPETITION
His Worship the Mayor Cllr Leighton Rowlands would like to extend an invitation to children in nursery, primary and special schools within the Vale to enter a competition to design his Official Christmas Card.
The Mayor sends a number of cards each year to other Civic Heads throughout Wales and Europe, as well as throughout the communities of The Vale of Glamorgan.
Details of how to enter are attached, and the closing date for submissions is 5pm on Monday 26th November 2018.
The Mayor really hopes that the children will be able to take part and looks forward to seeing all entries and would also like to take this opportunity to thank you very much for your assistance and support.
Next Tuesday, 13th November, we are welcoming the internationally acclaimed storyteller and author, Daniel Morden, to school!
He is coming as part of a project with some of our partner schools and will be performing to our Year 3 children, alongside classes from other schools from Cardiff and Merthyr.
Daniel is a master storyteller and we’re in for a treat. This visit is being partially funded by a grant from the Arts Council of Wales, and we are grateful for their support in this.
Daniel will be bringing a stock of books with him to sell at the end of the day in the school hall. He has written a number of books for children – see the sample titles below for an idea. Please come along if you’d like to get a signed book – a great time to start your Christmas shopping, perhaps?
Books for Foundation Phase age children are priced at £5.99 and Key Stage 2 suitable texts range from £5 to £10.
More details of the books available are attached to this newsletter.
SUPPORT SCHOOL DINNERS!
Next week is National School Meals Week and we would like to get as many pupils in for lunch as possible to celebrate the 25th Year anniversary of this event. The new menu is on the school website, under the ‘Parent Zone’ tab.
The Vale Foodbank would like to pass on their thanks for your recent donations. We collected 177kg of food which is enough to feed 18 people for three days! Thank you as ever for your generosity.
VOLUNTEER READERS STILL NEEDED!
The children in Reception and Year 4 are still looking for volunteers to listen to them read. If you can help them out they would be very grateful – please let the school office know.
Y4’s SPACE DAY
On Tuesday 13th November, the children in Y4 will be enjoying a ‘Space Day’! Your Y4 child can wear space-themed clothes, an item of clothing in the colour of their favourite planet or space feature, or bring something related to the project to show the class.
ATTENDANCE FOR THE WEEK
Our whole-school attendance figure for this week is 94.2%, well below our school target for this year, 96.1%.
Individual class figures were as follows:
DG 99.3 %
So Miss Gilmore’s Reception class came out on top in the Foundation Phase for the second week running, and Miss Martin’s Y6 class were the KS2 champions. Well done – these classes will have extra play next week!
We have received some fantastic Christmas card designs! If you sent in a design, you should have had your sample Christmas card sent back to you now.
All orders need to be sent in to school no later than Wednesday 14th November, after which date we cannot order any more cards
BATH BUS TRIP
We still have a few places left on this great day out, Saturday 8th December £15 per ticket.
Please contact Vikki on 07977 426789 to secure your place
We are sourcing raffle prizes for our Christmas concert raffle. If you would like to donate a prize, please either send it in with your child or get in touch with any PTA member. Many thanks!
